How Polymarket Multi-Outcome Markets Work (Who Will Win, Which Range)

Explainer · live examples updated September 24, 2026, twice a day

Multi-outcome markets — who wins an election, which team takes a title, which range a number lands in — list many possible answers. Polymarket runs each answer as its own yes/no market, and exactly one of them resolves Yes.

That is why the prices of all outcomes add up to about $1: together they cover every possibility. Buying “No” on a favourite is a bet that any other outcome wins.

Frequently asked questions

Why do all the outcomes in a Polymarket market add up to 100%?

Because exactly one of them will resolve Yes; each outcome's price is its probability, so the probabilities together cover every possible result (spreads make the sum drift slightly above 100%).

Can I bet against an outcome instead of for one?

Yes — buy its “No” share, which pays $1 if any other outcome wins.
